In October 1986, a teen center called the Youth Alternative Center (AYC) opened in Fort Collins in order to serve boys and girls from disadvantaged circumstances in a safe, secure and fun atmosphere after school and during the summer. In 1988, the AYC Directors joined forces with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. This national organization has served children for 140 years. In October 1994, at the request of the officials of the Town of Wellington, an extension of the Fort Collins Boys & Girls Clubs was opened in Wellington Town Park. In February 1996, an existing teen center in Loveland (Youth Empire) Board merged with Fort Collins and Wellington, and the organization became The Boys & Girls Club of Larimer County (BGCLC). The Boys & Girls Clubs have successfully structured the clubs to offer programs that have been proven to positively impact at risk youth socially and emotionally.
The Future
While our achievements are extensive, we are committed to continue aggressively expanding our services to reach more children. With the help of all the individuals, corporations, and foundations who share our beliefs in the potential of all girls and boys, regardless of their circumstances, we look to the future with great optimism.
